look right2004Producer & Director - Fifty Years and Beyond

Commissioned by Leo Baeck Institute in New York City to produce a thirty minute documentary telling the story of the mission of the Institute as told through the voices of those leading the work of this organization founded in 1954 to reconstruct the story of the German Jewish experience. Distributed on DVD in November 2004. October 2005 the documentary was awarded a Silver Plaque by Intercom/ Chicago International Film Festival. Premiere screening on December 13, 2005.



look right2002-2003 - Producer & Director -  Body, Mind, Spirit & Voice

Commissioned to create, produce and direct a ninety minute documentary featuring the American Boychoir and the Newark Boys Chorus working with world renowned choral musical directors Dr. Anton Armstrong and Dr. Andre Thomas, as they conducted a three day clinic preparing the choirs for a concert.   Filmed in September 2002 and released on videocassette fall of 2003.

look right2001-2003 - Producer&Director -  Berlin Metamorphoses

Created the documentary concept, raised the funding and filmed in Berlin over one year to produce a feature length documentary telling the story of the transformation taking place in Berlin since the fall of the Wall in 1989.  Selection at the IFP Market, as a work-in-progress documentary and screened at Angelika Theatre on October 1, 2002. There was a premiere screening of the completed documentary in Berlin on October 23, 2002 at the World History Producers conference. It was a selection at the Hamptons International Film Festival with screening on October 26, 2003. Held twelve theatrical screenings around the United States in 2003 and 2004.  Secured the distribution through American Public Television, and in November 2003 released a one hour version for broadcast on over 80 public television stations including WNET and WNYC in New York.   Received a 2004 Gold Award from the Aurora Awards. 


1996 - Executive Producer & Director  -  The Journey of Butterfly

Created, produced and directed this one-hour documentary film telling the story of the Ghetto Terezin, through the music, art and words of the children, imprisoned during World War II by the Nazis.  This includes a concert performed by The American Boychoir of Princeton, New Jersey entitled “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” and witness from survivors. Filmed in Czechoslovakia in September and October 1991, with a production team of fifty.  Secured distribution of the film which was originally broadcast on over 100 public television stations via American Program Service in April 1996.  It continues to be seen around the country and has become an “evergreen” documentary for public television stations.  It was released on video cassette and selected by the US Holocaust Museum for their catalog.  The film was awarded a 1995 CINE Golden Eagle and 1997 International Film & Video Festival certificate for creative excellence.  Selected in 1996 by the Book of the Month Club.  Raised funding over a five year period in order to complete the project.

Producer & Director - The Journey of Butterfly: The Legacy

Created  a one hour sequel documentary film to original documentary, showing impact on a group of young men, who as members of the American Boychoir, traveled to Czechoslovakia in 1991, encountering the realities of the story of the Holocaust. Raised the funding to film in Prague and Terezin in Czech Republic and at the Boychoir School in Princeton, New Jersey.   Premiere broadcast on WNET, New York on Sunday, April 14, 2002. and then secured national distribution through  American Public Television, which released the documentary in April 2003 to public television stations. The documentary is introduced by ABC's Charles Gibson

 

 2000-2001- Producer&Director Russia: Facing the Future

Commissioned by Carnegie Corporation of New York to produce and direct a one hour documentary which premiered at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. on May 8, 2001. The documentary narrated by Judy Woodruff was part of the Russia Initiative, a one year research project by Carnegie Corporation of New York to analyze the political, economic, military and social situation in Russia. Filmed in Russia, the United States and Hungary.  Secured distribution of documentary via WorldLink, Direct TV for broadcast in July 2001 and the documentary was also broadcast on Maryland Public Television in August 2001.

Commissioned by the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation to produce and edit a twenty three minute documentary, telling the story of the foundation’s mission to create a study center and to restore the only surviving synagogue in the town of Oswiecim, Poland just across the River Sola from the site of the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau. Awarded a 2000 Gold Plaque from Intercom/Chicago International Film Festival and a 2001 International Film & Video Festival  “Certificate for Creative Excellence".
berlin airlift1998 -Producer & Director The Berlin Airlift

Conceived, raised the funding, produced and directed this documentary to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. Filmed in Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany; in Britain and the United States conducting several interviews with pilots and others who actually participated in the Airlift along with gathering archival footage to tell the story.  Developed co-production relationship in order to secure distribution with WETA-TV in Washington, D.C., Paul Duke was the host/narrator.  Broadcast on PBS in primetime on July 13, 1998 and released on videocassette.
1998 - Executive Producer & Director – The Berlin Airlift: Reporting History

Raised the funding and created a thirty minute documentary as a companion piece to tell the story of the Berlin Airlift from the perspective of five teenage reporters from Children's Express based in Washington and London, along with six high school students from Berlin.  Filmed them in Washington, London and Berlin in 1997 and 1998.  In October 1998 the film was distributed by Maryland Public Television via satellite to public television stations and schools throughout the United States as well as on video cassette for use in classrooms with a learner's guide for students.

- Producer, Director, and Narrator – Berlin: Journey of a City

Created, secured the funding and produced this one-hour documentary telling the story of fifty years of Allied occupation of the city considered to be the epicenter of The Cold War. Filmed in Berlin during August and September 1994.   American Program Service distributed the film to public television stations beginning in the fall of 1995 and AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio and Television Service) distributed to their outlets around the world. The documentary distributed on videocassette since 1996.
1991-1992 - Executive Producer & DirectorJames Cagney: City Boy, Country Gentleman

Created the concept, produced and directed the film, raised the funding and secured distribution on a one hour documentary on the life and times of the actor. It was aired as part of the Biography series on A&E Network in November 1992.  In 1998 the documentary was re-released via American Public Television for broadcast on public television stations around the U.S, and released on videocassette.

1989-1990 - Producer, Director, Writer – In Search of the Dream

Commissioned by A&E Network to create, develop and produce this series of six one hour programs, which told the story of the African-American experience over a fifty year period from l940 to l990.  Filmed on location from Georgia to New York, traveling in a van with the production team over one month in March and April 1989. The programs were broadcast as a special primetime series on A&E Network in October and November l990 and repeated in January 1991. It was later released on video for educational distribution. The series received an ACE (Cable award) nomination and National Association of Black Journalist’s award.

A Retrospective

Commissioned by ABC News to produce a series of ten one hour programs, giving an historical perspective of the key events for each year of the 1980's.  Released in 1991 on videocassette by ABC News.  The History Channel broadcast the series in 1996.
1989-1990 - Producer, Director and Writer -  Heroes

Commissioned by ABC News to create, produce and write a series of twenty six half hour programs profiling US Congressional Medal of Honor, British Victoria Cross and French Legion of Honor recipients. Filmed interviews and gathered archival footage throughout the United States, Canada, Britain and France over a one year period and broadcast as a special primetime series on the A&E Network from February to July 1990. Received an ACE nomination in 1991.
 1989-1991 - Executive Producer & Director  - The Classics
Commissioned by The Learning Channel to produce and direct two ten-part series relating the stories of film classics to the literature, which each film was based on. The series was filmed at Middlebury College with authors Jay Parini and Ron Powers, intercut with the original movies.  The series originally aired in l990 on The Learning Channel.

1988 - Executive Producer & Interviewer -
Kristallnacht: The Journey from 1938 to 1988


Received major funding to create and produce a one hour documentary telling the story of the Nazi actions against the German and Austrian Jewish communities on November 9, l938 known as the “night of the breaking glass” and the impact in the countries  to the present day. Filmed in Germany and Austria in August and September 1988 and edited in two months to have it broadcast on PBS the evening of November 9, l988 with Eric Sevareid as the narrator.   Secured distribution on PBS through a co-production relationship with WETA-TV, Washington, D.C..  Awarded a 1989 CINE Golden Eagle.

1989-1991 - Executive Producer & Director- The University Lecture Series

Commissioned by The Learning Channel to produce and direct a series of twenty five one hour programs featuring professors and educators in higher education lecturing on subjects in which they have distinguished themselves, as well as doing interviews discussing their life experiences in their field of expertise. Traveled throughout the United States to film the twenty five part series which were broadcast on The Learning Channel from l989 through l991.
